SINGAPORE: A tech outage triggered by a software update upended businesses worldwide on Friday (Jul 19).

CrowdStrike, one of the world's most popular cybersecurity firms, said one its updates caused Microsoft Windows operating systems to crash and display a blue screen, known informally as the Blue Screen of Death.

The US company said it was not a security incident or cyberattack and that a fix has been issued.

IT outages took place across the world, affecting flights, banking and company operations in countries such as Singapore, the United States, the United Kingdom, India and Australia.
